One Room Challenge Entryway Makeover Updates:

First of all, thank you to Sashco for partnering me on my entryway project! I used their eXact color caulk for my box moulding and it definitely helped simplify the process! I shared more about it in this post.

Entryway Console Table Styling Tips & Tricks

1. Start with Functionality

Before styling your console table, think about how you need it to function. Do you need it to hold keys, hide shoes, act as a propagation station? Make a list of how you plan to use this space and what you need to include for your console table to function for your lifestyle. Once you’ve determined how your console table needs to function, you can then determine what practical yet stylish elements to incorporate into the design.

Our entryway is the brightest room in the house, so my plants tend to gather there. I also know we need a place to drop our keys, phone, and mail. For styling, I love to use a small shallow basket, tray, or bowl for keys, sunglasses, and other small essentials. Decorative boxes or baskets act as stylish storage for gloves, scarves, or umbrellas. Bonus points if you have a storage bench for additional hidden storage!

2. Create Visual Interest with Layers

Once you’ve found your functional elements, create visual interest by layering objects of varying heights and sizes on your console table. Choose a statement piece to anchor your console table and draw attention to the space. This could be a large mirror, a piece of artwork, a decorative accent such as a sculpture or vase or even a propagation wall. The statement piece should reflect your personal style and set the tone for the rest of the decor. Aim to use items of varying heights and sizes. If you find that you have multiple items of the same height, you can help change it up by stacking a few large books and placing something on top of it to create more dimension. You can also use items such as lamps, vases, or candlesticks to add visual height and dimension. This layering technique adds depth to your design.

3. Incorporate Varying Textures and Colors

If your entryway console table is feeling bland, it may be because all of your elements are too similar. An easy way to add interest and personality is to very the texture, color, and materials of the pieces on and around your console table. Think a metal framed mirror with a wood console table, ceramic vase with a flowering branch, a small lamp, and a tray for your keys. Consider the rest of the room when adding elements, and make it feel cohesive by repeating the same colors and textures a few times throughout the space.

4. Add Greenery for Life

Y’all know plants in the entryway are my absolute favorite! Bring the outdoors in by adding greenery to your entryway console table. Potted plants or vase of fresh flowers adds life and freshness to the space while also introducing texture and color. If you claim to have a black thumb, choose low-maintenance plants or faux greenery to ensure easy upkeep. This is the only area where I feel more is more – as you can tell by the pile of plants on my entryway table!

5. Balance Symmetry and Asymmetry

Achieve visual balance by playing with symmetry and asymmetry in your console table styling. Symmetrical arrangements, such as matching lamps or candleholders on either side of the table, create a sense of order and harmony. Alternatively, asymmetrical arrangements add a dynamic and eclectic touch, allowing you to mix and match different objects for a more relaxed look.

6. Mind the Scale and Proportion

Pay attention to the scale and proportion of your decor items in relation to the size of your console table and the surrounding space. Avoid overcrowding the table with too many objects, as this can make the space feel cluttered and overwhelming. Instead, select a few key pieces that complement each other and leave plenty of breathing room around them.

7. Personalize with Sentimental Touches

Infuse your entryway console table with personality and warmth by incorporating sentimental touches and personal mementos. Display family photos in stylish frames, showcase travel souvenirs, or incorporate cherished heirlooms into the decor. These personal touches not only add character to the space but also make it feel more inviting and unique to you.
