Home Office Guest Room Makeover Reveal – One Room Challenge Spring 2020

One Room Challange 2020 Home Office Guest Room Reveal

I’m so excited to finally share our Home Office Guest Room makeover! From ugly yellow, storage room to modern and moody retreat, this space now serves as a multi-functional space for my husband’s racing simulator, our home office, and guest room.

As a reminder, the room looked like this when we began…

Black Walls for the Racing Simulator

The first thing we did to transform this room was give it a nice, fresh coat of black paint and crisp white trim. That alone took it a long way from where we started! The black helps the racing simulator blend in and makes the room feel cohesive.

Room Divider to Designate Spaces

This past week, I finally built my room divider – DIY blog post on how I made it coming soon! I debated whether to add it, but I’m so glad I did! The racing sim is the first thing that you see when you walk into the room, so the divider helps designate the space for the simulator. I added my DIY stump table along with a plant stand to create an inviting little nook near the doorway.

Floating Shelf and Gallery Wall Decor

One thing I wanted to accomplish in this room was to make it feel cohesive, like all the different pieces belong together. Painting the walls black was the first step, then we added this huge floating shelf across the back wall. Since it spans from the simulator corner to the daybed wall, it helps unite the two spaces.

Racing trophies and photos provided most of the décor for this room. For those of you who know us, racing is a HUGE part of our lives. We used the floating shelf to display my husband’s championship trophies and various memorabilia while the gallery wall features the photos and art of my husband’s racing over the years.

Expandable Daybed for Home Office Guest Room Makeover

I still cannot believe we successfully built this daybed! This daybed expands into a king size bed to offer a spacious bed for our guests. Closed, it serves as a comfy sitting area for our home office / sim room. Originally, I planned to go light on the covers, but the dark grey fit the vibe of this office. I complemented it with a combination of white, grey, and leather pillows.

Next to the daybed, I used the locking black filing cabinet we already have as a side table. This way it serves dual-purpose, but also blends into the black wall. Next to it, I added a couple of stacked floor cushions and a snake plant to add some greenery.

The Closet Office

This closet is huge and works perfectly as our office space! We added battery-operated LED lights for lighting, built-in shelves on either side, and added a long shelf across to serve as the desk. This space now serves as the home for our printer and miscellaneous office supplies, plus provides the perfect little work space. I also love that we can just close the closet doors when we have guests, so it doesn’t feel like they’re sleeping in our office.
